Shared service centre - Shared services sit at the heart of our finance function. Everything from accounts payable (procure to pay) and credit control/collections, through to the gathering of financial data for statutory reporting happens right here in this award-winning team based at our head office in Solihull. Financial planning and analysis - Effective financial planning and analysis are fundamental to the profitability and success of Tarmac. Whether that is through the effective management of credit, ensuring that our business is prudently protected against risks, or providing effective financial forecasting through scenario modelling – our FP&A team support decision making that helps Tarmac achieve its objectives both now and in the future. Joining this team will give the opportunity to truly shape how we achieve this.
Financial accounting - Ensuring that we have robust financial controls in place and the meeting of our statutory reporting obligations are a vital part of the work carried out by our finance team. Financial accounting specialists can be found across our finance team – be that within our regional teams, our business units, or our dedicated business planning team – our technical financial accounting specialists provide the expertise needed to ensure both Tarmac and the wider group meets its financial objectives.
Business partnering - Whichever team you join, your role will see you working closely with a wide range of stakeholders across the business. Whether you are providing pricing information for our sales team, margin analysis for our operational leadership, or supporting our logistics team to increase their efficiency, your ability to translate financial information into actionable insight for your stakeholders is what will truly set you apart. Insight and analytics - As we embark on our exciting transformation, it is vital that we effectively leverage our data assets to improve our service levels, increase efficiency and enhance profitability. Your ability to work with large volumes of data, and familiarity with tools that will enable us to automate complex queries and processes will be invaluable to us, as we move towards our goal of becoming the finance function of the future.
IT - The I.T teams are the behind the scenes driving force that keeps all the other teams running, be it providing a desktop computer to a weighbridge to ensure that the company finances continue to run, or ensuring that all the computers in the business are at the required specification for nationally recognized cybersecurity accreditations. There are teams dedicated to ensuring our customers have a seamless interaction with the Tarmac systems. In addition to this, there is the provision to ensure the sites, quarries and plants, have all the technology they need to generate the income that every aspect of the company relies on. Within the I.T sector there are an array of exciting projects taking place and these need to be carefully managed from within.
To work in our finance department, you’ll need an analytical approach, as well as the ability to communicate and engage with your stakeholders across the business. Activities and opportunities are extremely variable, ranging from planning and running the forecast and budget process for the whole of Tarmac, to producing financial reports to help analyse results and make strategic decisions going forward. You might partner with one of our business units or work centrally in our corporate team, with either option providing ongoing development opportunities and the chance to learn new skills.
