I’m a married 39- year-old father to two, nine-year-old twin girls – it's a busy life! I have a real passion and love for sport, food, and outdoor activities. I used to play Ice Hockey professionally but retired from the sport when I was 25.

I’m responsible for leading the Tarmac resourcing team and supporting activities related to attracting, selecting, and employing the best possible candidates for roles spread across the UK. The best part of my role is the ability to speak, meet and collaborate with people coming from different backgrounds, cultures, and regions of the country and beyond. It’s fair to say that no two days are the same, and there is no better feeling than having a conversation with a candidate to let them know they have been successful, and we would love to offer them a job.

When I first came across the resourcing manager role, I wasn’t really sure about the construction industry. Perhaps I thought it would be a very old-fashioned business with outdated technology. After doing some research and having conversations, I quickly realised how large the organisation is and the people-focus the business has. The fact that we’re constantly evolving and innovating, as well as working on the big national infrastructure projects like resurfacing the Silverstone racetrack or supporting HS2 development, almost immediately made me want to be part of the organisation. After a successful recruitment process, in summer 2019 I joined Tarmac and have now been here for over three years.

It’s fair to say that during my time here at Tarmac, I have progressed within the organisation and have been involved in many exciting resourcing, HR and wider business projects which has helped me to grow from both a professional and personal perspective.

The biggest highlight of my career up to date will be completion of my CIPD studies which the business has supported. Coming from a less privileged background where English has been my second language, I never really had the opportunity to complete any type of higher education. I’m also very proud of being able to shape the resourcing function to support our vision of becoming the employer of choice for our sector.

Tarmac is a fantastic place with a huge range of different roles and endless opportunities. You can grow and develop, gain new qualifications, become an industry expert or have just a stable job for life. Our inclusive culture allows people from different backgrounds express themselves and build upon their skills.
