Our Apprenticeship Programmes
Operational roles vary a great deal, but all follow the basic principle that you’ll work on one of our operational sites – whether that’s a quarry, concrete plant, cement plant, road surfacing or warehouse – to help us produce and prepare our products. The opportunities are really broad, and you can do anything from working with explosives managing safe quarry blasting, to learning how mix and produce new materials.
We’re passionate about development and progression in operations and offer a wide variety of apprenticeships, graduate schemes and other formal learning and qualifications and accreditations to help you not just operate safely, but to help you progress your career with us as well. One of those that we offer is the Professional Operator Development Programme – PODP for short.
Our Belief
Our belief is that the PODP is an opportunity for you to create a foundation to build your career, making a difference to your life. We feel our apprenticeship programmes gives a personal skill set and confidence to take the opportunity to move forward both personally and in the workplace.
Each PODP has been specifically designed by our subject matter experts to give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours that will enable you to be successful here at Tarmac.
On completion you will gain the industry competence qualification that has been identified for your job role along with the Apprenticeship certification.

Our Commitment
As both employer of the learners and the training provider we have communicated our intentions internally to gain executive and senior leadership buy in. The managers of learners are communicated with to ensure that they fully understand the requirements and commitments of the apprenticeship, including the “off the job requirements”. This programme is firmly embedded within Tarmac and continues to attract the support of the senior leaders.
