Higher Production Apprentice
Cement and Lime
We have an opportunity for a higher apprentice to working with our production
teams working on shift. You will learn about the smooth running and performance
of all plant items on site. The majority of time will be spent operating plant,
maximising its throughput and operating a forklift truck as required. You will learn
how to carry out other duties such as first line maintenance, cleaning, manual
handling and any other task which is safe and the for which you will be trained as
the occasion arises. Electrical or mechanical skills would be beneficial due to the
nature of the 24/7 operation but not essential for the individual with the right
attitude. A high level of accuracy with data and information reporting will be
required and some IT literacy will be essential.
You will have 5 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades 4-9 (A*-C equivalent) plus 80 UCAS points or equivalent at A/AS level.
Main responsibilities for the job are and full training we be given:-
● Ensuring safe working procedures are followed at all times on shift for all
employees and contractors. Use of risk assessments, S.T.O.P booklets and
wearing of adequate PPE at all times. Paying particular attention to the safe
operating of all mobile plant on the works, in the congested areas of the
packing plant and associated warehousing.
● Communication of plant related issues is a fundamental part of the job and
the job holder will be accountable for ensuring that these issues along with
accidents, unsafe conditions and unauthorised releases are reported as
required by manufacturing co-ordinator. Tarmac operates a combination of
in house electronic logs and hard copy log sheets which must be used to
their full advantage.
● The job holder will gain experience in fast moving plant operation and fault
finding. They will receive specific training in current plant operation but needs
to show a particular flare for this environment. Maintenance cover will be
limited and it is therefore vital that the main job stoppers and slowers are
identified and largely resolved on shift. For this reason electrical and/or
mechanical skills would be an advantage or have a desire to learn this skill.
● The job holder will ensure that all required documentation is completed in line
with instruction from shift co-ordinator. All relevant information related to
limited throughput or stoppage of plant must be relayed to the maintenance
department before the end of his shift.
On the Barnstone site the main operations cover:-
· Cement milling to produce a range of microcements.
· Sand drier to provide economical source of dried sand
· Three H&B Adams packing lines
· One H&B Benjamin packing line
· Powder 1 blender and feed/ delivery systems.
· Operation of big bag packers to fill IBC.
· Pallet storage and loading
